Understand your health and fitness levels. See them improve.
Fitness assessments are an important part of your journey towards better health as they give you:
- An accurate picture of your health and fitness,
- An indication of appropriate starting levels,
- A baseline for goal setting and assistance in group fitness recommendations.
At Vintage Fitness we offer four areas of testing and assessment that will give you a complete picture of your physical health and fitness.
Vintage Fitness assessments
Our assessments can be done individually or as a complete package. You will get written results and any recommendations based on the testing.
+ Functional Movement Screen ($70)
Functional movement is your body’s ability to move using multiple muscle groups without pain or disfunction. Good functional movement assists us in being able to carry out the things we want to do in day to day life, commonly called activities of daily living.
Functional Movement Screen
The Functional Movement Screen (FMS) is a screening tool used to evaluate seven fundamental movement patterns in individuals with no current pain complaint or musculoskeletal injury. The FMS is not intended to diagnose orthopedic problems but rather to demonstrate opportunities for improved movement in individuals.
The seven Functional Movement Screen patterns
- Deep Squat.
- Hurdle Step.
- Inline Lunge.
- Shoulder Mobility.
- Active Straight Leg Raise.
- The Trunk Stability Push-Up.
- Rotary Stability.
Why do we test it?
- A consistent and reliable testing method.
- Easily identifies movement limitations and dysfunction.
- Improves efficiency, durability, and performance.
- Provides an enhanced foundation for exercise and performance programming.
+ Physical Measurements ($70)
Why do we test it?
- To get a baseline of your fitness ability.
- To be able to measure improvements in your fitness capability.
What do we test?
- Up and go test
- 30 second stand test
- Bicep curl test
- Walk test
- Body Composition including BMI, Body Fat percentage and Waist/Hip ratio
Note: We may not do all these tests, just those relevant to you.
+ Posture Profile Analysis ($20)
Posture is how you sit or stand. Good posture is important for maintaining a healthy spine and will help prevent muscle, back, and neck pain.
Symptoms of poor posture can include:
- Rounded shoulders
- Potbelly
- Bent knees when standing or walking
- Head that either leans forward or backward
- Back pain
- Body aches and pains
- Muscle fatigue
- Headache.
Poor posture interferes with the body’s postural mechanisms including:
- ‘Slow twitch’ and ‘fast twitch’ muscle fibres
- Muscle strength and length
- Nervous system feedback on the body’s position in space.
How do we test posture and body alignment?
We test posture by a visual analysis of the body in anterior, posterior and lateral views.
+ Balance Testing ($20)
Balance is involved in every activity of daily life, including walking, bending over to tie your shoes, and going up and down the stairs. Balance training improves the skills necessary for these real-life movements and helps reduce your risk of injury. Balance is a trainable skill, like riding a bike, but consistency is important. The more you practice, the better your balance will be.
Poor balance is an important indicator of many health problems including neurological disorders, heart problems, inner ear problems, vision problems, muscle and joint problems, nervous system problems, anxiety and stress, diabetes and problems arising from medications.
How do we test it?
The Balance Mat measures postural sway electronically and is displayed graphically.
